Snow Day!

We were SO excited to have a day at school with SNOW! It is supposed to be a brrrrr cold winter this year for us. Hmmm, right now it is pouring rain… but maybe, just MAYBE… it might SNOW at CHRISTMAS again!!!

Here we are enjoying our wonderful snow!

Hallowe’en Who’s Who!

Can you spot the children behind these fantastic costumes???

Pumpkins, Pumpkins!

After we brought our Nestor Pumpkin Patch pumpkins home, Mrs. B. brought in 6 more pumpkins for “Pumpkin Math”.  We measured and compared our pumpkins with our own bodies!  Did you know that some of us have heads with the same circumference as our pumpkins???  Some of our pumpkins had 24 ribs, just like we do!!!

Then we got down to the goopy business of scooping out our pumpkins and counting the seeds.  We used egg cartons which had been cut into 10 frames, to make the counting easier.  That pumpkin pulp sure is mucky stuff!  After we were done counting, we used our “making 10’s” strategies to figure out that we had collected 3,241 seeds all together!  Wow!

Naturally, the last part of the job was make the pumpkins into JACK O’LANTERNS!  They were SPOOK-TACULAR when we turned out the lights!

The next week we did ‘Taste ‘n Tell’ activities with pumpkins.  We baked the pumpkin seeds we had scooped with some oil and salt.  Oops… a little too much salt!  We also baked slices of pumpkin with butter and brown sugar.  Yum!

What a lot of ways to explore a local food, PUMPKINS!

Nestor Pumpkin Patch

Thanks to our wonderful PAC group, our Nestor Park area was magically transformed into a delightful Pumpkin Patch!  There were large pumpkins and small, pumpkins under logs, pumpkins between tree roots, and even pumpkins on the slides!  The children had a wonderful time trying to pick the “best” pumpkin to take home.  These were carefully delivered right to our classroom door, while the students enjoyed a juice and a Hallowe’en goodie!  What a marvelous day!

Teddy Bear Picnic

… or should it be called “Stuffie Fun”???

Our class celebrated the final Friday of Grade 2 with a Stuffie Picnic!  Everyone brought a stuffie and a lunch to share.  Mrs. B. brought ice cream and pop for floats.  We snuck out a bit early to lay claim to one of the picnic tables and green areas in Nestor Park and then carted all our blankets and stuffies and food and goodies outside.  Wilbur Wombat from Australia and Swingwaage Wolverine from Michigan, USA were the honored guests!

Year-end Waterpark Fun!

As our special treat for the end of the year, all the Grade 2’s headed over to the Town Center Waterpark for the afternoon.  We weren’t sure if the weather was going to cooperate, because June had been quite cool and damp.  We must have done something right, however, because the HOTTEST, SUNNIEST, most DELIGHTFUL weather arrived EXACTLY on Wednesday June 21st!!!

Here are just a few of our fun photos!

We had a fabulous Sports Day (again!) but this year it was INDOORS! It is always SO disappointing to be “rained out”, so a few years ago our school set up a plan for an Indoor Sports Day. This year the weather proved it was a good idea!

There were lots of exciting stations, all over the school… in the gym, the multi-purpose room, down hallways, in the library, in the Resource Room, and even in some classrooms! We ran, jumped, hoola-hooped, dressed up, balanced, squished wet sponges AND MORE! One of the favourite stations was the parachute, and even our Stuffie mascots got to get in on the action here!
