Happy Father’s Day!

We had fun getting ready for Father’s Day! It was a little bit easy, because we already knew how to make the “booklet” (just like for Mother’s Day). It was also a bit hard, because lots of students weren’t really sure WHAT their fathers go out to do for their work!

We found that there was a similar book, called “Papa Do You Love Me“, which helped us write a Father’s Day poem.

We made pictures in KidPix and then put them into a Voicethread. We sure hope our Dads like it!

Happy Father’s Day!

Parent Appreciation Tea

After such a WONDERFUL “Teacher Appreciation” lunch, it was hard for the teachers to match the high expectations for our “Parent Appreciation” tea!!!

We hope that those parents who were able to attend feasted on the goodies made by the teachers (although we couldn’t hope to compete with YOUR culinary skills!) Instead, we hope that you especially enjoyed the performances by the choir and other student classes.

Here are the two songs performed by the Grade 2s. Enjoy!

Thank you, dear Parents, for all you do!

Firefighters’ Pancake Breakfast

We were SO EXCITED today, because it was the FIREFIGHTERS’ PANCAKE BREAKFAST!   We piled out the back door when we saw the firetruck backing into the parking lot and we waved and cheered for them.  Then came the loooonnnng wait… actually, it wasn’t too long at all before Mr. Della Vedova said it was the Grade 2s turn to line up!   We got to climb right into the firetruck and get our photo in front of it too.  We brought money to put in the Firefighters’ boots.  What a fun way to do a fund-raiser for a good cause!  There were SO many firefighters cooking up pancakes!  This year they added a new recipe… chocolate chip pancakes!  Yum!   Parents were waiting for us inside with maple syrup and drinks.  Then the WHOLE SCHOOL gathered in the gym to eat pancakes and Christmas oranges and sing carols.  Mr. D-V had an ELF SUIT!  (and he wore his “Elf Ears” all day long too!)   At the end, in came SANTA!  It was so exciting for everyone!   After recess, Santa and his “Mr. D-V Elf” came around to all the classrooms so that we could get a class photo.  At the end of the day, everyone got a DELICIOUS cookie to enjoy!  It was a DELICIOUS DAY for everyone!

did YOU pick?

Christmas Craft Fair

What WONDERFUL and LUCKY parents we have at Nestor!  They are WONDERFUL because the PAC organized a huge Craft fair with ever so many crafts selling at fantastic prices.  They are LUCKY because the students got to go shopping at the fair to buy presents for… their families!  The teachers are lucky too… we got to do a little “money math” practice along with the shopping!

4 quarters = 1 dollar

$2.00 – $.50 = $1.50

3 presents at $.50 each is $1.50

$2.00 – $1.50 = $.50

No money left = lots of surprises for the family!

Who did YOU find a present for
at the Craft Fair?

Hallowe’en is such fun!

What an AWE-SOME WICKED day!  We did special Hallowe’en activities in different classrooms and burned off a LOT of energy in the gym rolling pumpkins and doing other fun races!  Then we had our traditional Hallowe’en parade after lunch.  The rain didn’t stop us… we just paraded through the halls and around the gym instead of going outside.  The Hallowe’en party was SPOOK-A-LICIOUS!  Most students took a lot of time and effort to decorate their plates and make scary foods from the Canada Food Guide.  We had owl’s eyes and witches’ fingers and goblin brains and other really unique dishes!  Mrs. BOO-khout made a HORRIBLE WITCHES’ BREW (that means DELICIOUS in Witch language!).  Everyone had to call out BLECH! and NASTY! as the ingrediants were added… bat’s blood, and hopping toads and stuff like that!  The slimy worms got voted to be the yuckiest ingrediant!  We listened to Hallowe’en songs while we enjoyed our goodies.  The skeleton puzzle candy was fun to arrange, and then EAT!  A special thanks to students Liza and Melissa for making goody bags for the whole class!  Mrs. BOO-hout appreciated how everyone helped with the clean-up.

Nestor Pumpkin Patch

Nestor Park was transformed into a PUMPKIN PATCH by our wonderful PAC!  They brought in almost 300 pumpkins!  Wow!  The children got to hunt for their favourite pumpkin and then enjoy a treat and a drink afterwards.  It was on a Thursday, so Mrs. Singh got to enjoy the fun!  Everyone took their pumpkin home to carve for Hallowe’en!

I wonder,
did anyone BAKE their pumpkin
instead of carving it???

Open House… what a success!

Open House is always such an exciting time

It took a lot of work to get all our displays ready for our parents in just 2 weeks, but we did it!  You all did your best to produce quality work (Poor Mrs. B. got sick and lost her voice, but there was no way she was going to miss school when getting ready for such an important event!  Mrs. Singh was sad that she could not come on Thursday, but she made a beautiful “hello poster” for you to show your parents.)

I think the “Who am I?” display was the most fun.  Funnily enough, your parents seemed to be able to find their own child’s “body” and writing.  Maybe that’s because you did such a good job of making a “realistic” head!  Thank goodness I was finally able to bring the pet tanks back into the classroom!  I prefer being able to bring the classroom pets in one-by-one but it did make for a special surprise for you to “suddenly see” them all at once!

Which piece of work were YOU
most excited to show your parents?

Week One – What a Success!

Grade 2 is AWESOME
UNIQUETHE BEST!

Those were some of the chosen descriptors from our new class!  The students then brainstormed some of the things that caught their attention right away:  lots of different books, a stuffed cloth rainbow on the wall, a hamster named Fluffy, Black hornet nests/hives hanging from the ceiling, a lizard skin on the wall, a dragon boat kite hanging above the carpet, stuffies that have travelled around the world, 8 different calendar activities, a dragonfly kite, a welcome poster from last year’s Grade 2 class, a funny story called the “Teeny Tiny Teacher“, a tree full of stuffed birds!

Sounds like an interesting classroom…
what do YOU think was the most interesting?
